History of the NPC&TC ... part 4 Since then St Andrews has developed beyond all recognition. Today there are eighty five beds plus a cottage for families. All bedrooms are en-suite; there a number of lounges, snooker room, sports hall, gymnasium, hydrotherapy pool, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa bath. Everything at St Andrews is geared towards returning serving and retired officers to better health. In 1996, a major new development took place with the opening of a treatment centre in Auchterarder, Perthshire. Castlebrae has seventy six bedrooms plus two cottages for patients which, with the treatment and leisure facilities, replicates what is available at St Andrews. Since the Northern Police Convalescent & Treatment Centre opened its doors to Police Officers over one hundred years ago, more than 60,000 patients have attended. The demand on the services at Harrogate and Auchterarder continues to increase. |
