Approximately 96% of people at some stage in their lives will suffer from “back problems” of one type or another. The intensity of pain and areas of pain will greatly depend on the syndrome but nearly all can be improved with a graded programme of stretches and active exercises, the aim of which will be to -

  • Gently reduce any muscle spasm.
  • Increase range of movement.
  • Increase joint and muscle stability.

These will obviously improve your posture, which will in turn help to reduce your pain. Walking and swimming are also good active exercises for back pain but might not be comfortable if one is in an ‘acute’ stage of pain.

On arrival at the Northern Police Convalescent & Treatment Centre your back injury will be fully accessed by a physiotherapist. Pain, loss of altered sensations, range of movement, posture and any changes you may have to have made in your daily functional activities will all be taken into account.

We aim to promote a positive attitude, to help you take control of your pain yourself.
